Tuesday night, I had it all covered: NBI clearance, transcript of records (which my cousin tipped as great supporting document), GSIS ID (which my former colleague tipped me as a document that the Department of Foreign Affairs accepted), birth certificate, and even my TIN ID (which I will find out as a non-accepted supporting ID come Wednesday morning). Tuesday night, my mom also called, "Anak, pag tinanong yung passport mo dati, sabihin mo, wala. Ni-record lang dati sa passport ko, kayo ni kuya mo."
Of course, the complications of my story in this blog entry would revolve around that - me getting in to this country without proper documentation, a passport to be specific. All of us siblings have been born in the KSA. Of the three of us, my sister was the only one that had a passport when she traveled back to the Philippines. She applied last year for her new passport and now she got one. It's a different story for me. I just went to the DFA office this morning and I got denied, "imposibleng wala kang passport nang bata ka, hindi ka makakarating sa Pilipinas kung wala ka nun."
After the "teller" (I don't know how to call them) in Step 1 consulted someone in the same room regarding my case, she instructed me to go to the transaction officer in Window 1, Door 1. The same thing was told to me by the officer. I kept to my argument, "wala po talaga akong passport", to which he replied, "hindi pwede yun, travel documents wala ka?" After some minutes trying to explain my case, and seeing nothing can be done about it for the mean time, I left the building and went to the now vacated seats for waiting applicants.
I called up my mom, and in an angry and disappointed voice, "Mommy, wala ba talaga akong passport? Hindi daw posible yun eh...". She replied, "Anak, wala talaga. Ano daw ang sabi nila?...". After she hung up, I cried. Being denied still stirs some strong emotions in me. I was really disappointed. To be honest, I was a bit angry towards my mom during that time (sorry, Mom, I know I shouldn't, and I'm over it now). I know my mom tells the truth. And although I cried partly to the reason seeing the DFA guys as anatagonists, now I also understand the position of the DFA people having to doubt my case - any person, male or female, adult or child, needs a passport to travel between different countries.
So to be clear regarding the back story: I was born in Gizan, KSA - a province far from the capital Riyadh, or even the city of Jeddah. I was two or three months old when my mom brought me to the Philippines. I didn't have a passport, but they put a note in my mom's passport, "with 1 child". The same thing was practiced when my mom brought my older brother to this country a year before me. Immigration was not that strict back then. Such practices were allowed. No matter how bad as it sounds, I was technically "smuggled" into the country, since I didn't have a passport (even if I had some documentation of "with 1 child" in my mom's passport). I don't want to call it my mom's fault, or the 1985 immigration people's fault, but nonetheless, I'm paying the price for the leniency of laws during that era.
Upon arriving home, my mom called again, and said sorry to me. She also told me not to get depressed about it. I'm getting over it now, although of course, my efforts is now turned to looking for her passport in 1985. Just last year or 2 years ago, my mom already went to the legal office of DFA since my kuya also had problems processing his passport. Yes, my kuya don't have a passport yet. And he's even got a bigger problem than mine, since aside from the non-existence of his infant passport as in my case, he's also got a problem regarding the discrepancy of his (second) name, so that's another story.
So my story is not over yet. I hope to locate my mom's old passport soon, and the letter from the DFA legal office. Silly me, that despite the reminder of my mom on Tuesday night, I didn't look for those documents after her call. Well, wish me luck! Whatever happens regarding this event, I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE
***********
Upon arrival of my kuya from work, I inquired about my mom's passport. And so, here in the following two pics is the page regarding my mom's entry to the Philippines with the translation in the second pic from the DFA legal office. The child stated as her dependent is my kuya.
And in this following pic, my mom's entry to the Philippines after me being born. So my hope for tomorrow is that they'd accept these documents and that they'd not try to make me produce my supposed to be lost passport, which really doesn't exist. Thanks to everyone who had been trying to help me sharing their experiences and their legal advice.
There's hope, there's hope! Tomorrow is another day! :)

Fast NBI clearance processing at Robinson's Otis
I was searching through the web on where was the best place in the metro to process NBI clearance. I live in Marikina and Robinsons Metro East seemed like the logical place for me to do so. But, upon searching, a certain horror story regarding processing it there greeted me. Of course, I did not want to line up 3 am in the morning.
Further searching through the blog sphere directed me to processing the clearance at Robinsons Otis, which was located in Pandacan, Manila. I live in the eastern side of the Metro, and Robinsons Otis was in the heart of the west. Despite the far distance, I trusted the blog posts and also trusted on our mass transit system. It's a good thing that there is the LRT line 2 already, and that the LRT lines 1 and 2, and MRT 3 has some sort of connectivity now.
Here's a timeline of my "adventure":
5:45 Left Marikina
6:15 LRT2 Katipunan Station
6:50 LRT1 Doroteo Jose Station
7:10 LRT1 Dorote Jose Station, was able to finally board on the 4th train
7:30 Finally at Robinson's Otis, followed the directions in the blog posts. Red tricycles, upon crossing Taft Ave - UN Ave intersection. Took the tricycles, not the pedicabs. I was the 31st in line.
10:00 Mall opened. Ushered in to the Robinsons Lingkod Pinoy holding area. Good thing I was one of the early birds because I got to be seated, unlike those who were "late" that had to stand up even in the holding area. By this time, I estimated the number of those who will process their clearances to 150-200.

11:00 Finally started processing.
11:50 Got my NBI clearances (for local employment, and for travel abroad)
1:30 Back home, after having lunch and almost taking the same way back. LRT1 - LRT2 to Araneta Center Cubao - FX ride to Marikina.

Observations:
Why is processing in Robinsons Otis faster?
Well, it is almost unknown to many people. It really is just a small mall, and since there are less people trying to process their clearance there, it really would be faster. It also helps that it is "near" the main NBI office. People have the mentality that it is always better to have transactions at the main office. I'm not saying that it's not true for some government offices, but having an unknown processing center near the main office has its perks.
Kudos to Robinsons for their Lingkod Pinoy centers
Of course, there's the business side to it, but it's a win-win-win situation for Robinsons, for the government, and the general public. It is not a question that SM malls are more flocked than Robinsons Malls. Putting up the Lingkod Pinoy centers really help increase the number of people that go to Robinsons malls and help increase their revenues, even in the smallest ways. I mean, of course people will buy food/drinks in the vicinity.
It is also an advantage to the government since they no longer need to construct satellite offices. And what better place to put such offices? With the mall mentality that Filipinos have (yes, I've got issues with the "mall mentality", which is why I have many outdoor weekend events), the mall is the perfect place to set up these offices.
Finally, it is good for the general public. Despite my issues with the Filipino mall mentality, there really is an upside to it. Malls are properly ventilated, have stores that sell food and drinks, and have proper toilets too. And since there are many centers around the metro, the general public has the "power" to choose where they want to have such transactions. By the way, in the Lingkod Pinoy centers, it is not only the NBI which has a satellite office, but Philhealth, SSS, and (for some malls,) DFA as well.
Tips:
Bring a book, hand-held devices, or music players. They will help you pass the time while in line when the mall is not open yet. I think I covered 40 pages of a book while waiting in line for 2 1/2 hours.
Bring water or bottled drinks. If you're going to process at Otis, Starbucks in the mall would be very tempting while waiting.
Prepare the necessary IDs. Of course, this is for faster processing.

Maverick Crisostomo (People 2011: Week 3)
Author's note: For 2011, I have decided to write about certain people in my life that have touched me during those times. These people, I may have interacted during that week or not, but surely I have remembered them. This is my response to a call to be always grateful at all times.
Maverick Crisostomo

Maverick Crisostomo

His Hotness, as everyone knows him. I think it was only last year that his tag as the "hottest person in UPLB" was launched, thanks to our co-faculty who all agree that he indeed is.
Everyday, whenever I go to their faculty room, he would automatically shield his arm and take my punches. It has been the routine, and it would seem to many that he is the most harrassed faculty in the institute. Well... he is. Hehe. But joking aside, that just shows his meekness, which is something that most of us appreciate.
He would just smile and play along even if the biggest "pranks" or trips are done to him. He was once the "Prettiest Instructor in UPLB", thanks to my shameless drive to put him to the top spot in a blitzkrieg campaign that put him to the pinnacle in a matter of less than 72 hours. Now, he is the focus of another campaign to bring back the good old days of him having straight hair. Yes folks, he had straight hair, albeit for a very brief period. If you would like to donate, just go ahead and do so by dropping your share at the PPSP (Piso Para Sa Pagpapastraight) bear in room C-114.
As last notes, if you are wondering how hot he is, well, hot enough to be "serenaded" by student(s), and hot enough to skip events like contests and parades - because attending such happenings would make his group earn not only the highest awards but achieving all of them. Why compete when your the hottest right?
PS. Help me convince him do the wedding of the night for the February Fair. We plan to make him exchange vows to four different brides.

Roy Sy (People 2011: Week 2)
Author's note: For 2011, I have decided to write about certain people in my life that have touched me during those times. These people, I may have interacted during that week or not, but surely I have remembered them. This is my response to a call to be always grateful at all times.

Roy Sy
Roy is an alumnus of De La Salle Canlubang (DLSC), and is the de facto coach/business manager of the DLSC Typhoons - their local Ultimate team which was originally put up by him and their alumni association. (Roy, if you are reading this, I don't know if it's de facto, or you really have a formal appointment. To everyone else, look up for Ultimate frisbee for the use of the word ultimate in this entry and coming entries, as I am into that sport).
His work in his team is pretty much the same as mine in my local team, the Makiling Ultimate Club (MUC), the organization that I founded with other UPLB alumni and students who are in love with the sport. We organize our teams for trainings, pick-ups (an anyone-may-play game during afternoons or mornings - this is an Ultimate term), etc. The first time that we have met was March last year in their 1st ever Disc Festival; we we're not even MUC yet by then, but that particular mini-tournament inspired us to make our rag-tag team more formal, which led us to where we are now, a recognized organization in the university.
After that mini-tourn, I met him in two of the several hat tournaments I attended last year: in UP Diliman for the DUO hat and at DLS DasmariƱas' LUgawan hat. A hat is a tournament where people come in as individuals and not as a team. Players are shuffled into separate teams, which is quite an experience really, as you are tested to adapt to the playing skills and habits of your "instant" teammates. Typhoons organized a hat last December, but I was not able to attend as I opted to go to a concurrent hat tournament in the north that day.
The thing with hat tournaments is that it does not require heavy work from me and Roy as we just need to urge people from our respective teams to come to those events. We go, play, and enjoy. So easy breezy for us, that is until early this year as news circulated in the Ultimate community about the upcoming New Year's League - a six week team competition which is one of the yearly leagues organized by the Philippine Ultimate Association (PUA).
Both Typhoons and MUC were not really sure of joining the league. Not really sure bordering on not joining. We had six people who were really eager to join, and they had five. One week before the deadline of bids, I contacted him and opened the idea of a merger. It went smoothly actually. We had the numbers; we were actually joining the league! The event that followed two days before (Jan 12) the deadline (Jan 14) made our merger a failure, but a success for both teams.
It was finalized that the league venue would be Nuvali. More people from both our teams got interested as the venue was accessible to both teams. Venue was one of the inhibitions of my teammates as a 6 weekend Manila trip would be a burden, especially to members who are yet students. As I am writing this, our team size has already ballooned to 28! Our merged team had to split, but it was not due to anything bad.
I remember the day after the deadline of bids, I told Roy I was in cloud nine. Haha. Our excitement was just overflowing that our respective home teams would finally have their PUA league birth. We were also very pleased about how we worked with each other, our correspondence was what Ultimate about - Spirit of the Game® on and off-court. And to make things even more exciting, our teams will see action and will eventually meet in the league as competitors because we are in the same pool!
Diana Emlano (People 2011: Week 1)
Author's note: For 2011, I have decided to write about certain people in my life that have touched me during those times. These people, I may have interacted during that week or not, but surely I have remembered them. This is my response to a call to be always grateful at all times.

Diana Emlano (Ms. D)
I met Ms D during our Faculty Follies production. For those who are not from LB, Follies is a yearly show in the university where colleges compete with witty scripts, "shocking" performances, anything goes. Students usually look forward to it to see their professors in scenes that they will never see inside their classrooms.
I remember, Sir Ron (one of the production's directors) and I (I was production manager) had a great problem in finding one of the main characters, the role of "Beera". We needed someone "fashionista", someone "palaban", someone who can really act. It was then that Sir Ron suggested Ms D. Being a veteran of the stage (she appeared in the Icebag series, and many other productions), and being a member of the Department of Humanities faculty teaching Speech Communication classes, we knew she'd be perfect.
And perfect she was. She made "her" colony united on and off stage (here's a link of our college's presentation by the way). She even won the best supporting actress role for her performance. She earned this even when she had difficulty during the middle of our act when she left the stage very shortly and asked water from me. I remember that time. When we were finished and was back at our dressing room, we were puzzled that a stage veteran like her who is used in being at the stage for hours would be tired at the ten minute mark of our act. Of course, we will forget this as we would be overcome by our college's defeat in the final rankings and also, our joy for our jewel, Ms D for winning her award. One week after our performance, together with the rest of the cast and crew, we even had a "victory" party at the night out district near the university.
Fast forward to January 5, 2011, I visited Ms D with Sir Koy at the Philippine General Hospital to donate blood. She was rushed there Jan 3 and it was not clear to me what she needed: RBC, WBC, Hemoglobin. We just rushed there because Sir Ron posted in our production cast and crew's Facebook group page that she was indeed rushed to PGH because of leukemia. The following day, her birthday, the doctors took some bone marrow sample and we are waiting for the results.
For more details regarding Ms D's battle, please visit her support group page in Facebook: Dee Army/ Pink Army. We are praying that it is not leukemia, though the odds are against us. I'm just set aback whenever I see Ms D's smile above and the battle that she's into right now. But I know she can win this, and we are here by her side to back her up.

Feeling of Harassment
I don't know. Last Thursday, during the last lap of my regular jog, that's how I kinda felt. At the middle the my usual eight round in between Baker and Men's Dorm, I already saw that ugly gay person coming to the lower grounds. I recognized him since I already had some uneasy experience of being "verbally harassed" by the same person, or at least, that's how I felt.
Last year, that was October, the night before LTI (clicky), I was completing the grades of my students, so that I can go to the said event. I came from our apartment and went back to the office. Along my way, I was happy taking pics of the yellow lights (clicky). Then in the area of the pedestrian lane before Physci, after the waiting shed where the Gamma Sigma usually hang out, that ugly existence came into sight.
That was already late at night, and I am usually alert as I don't want to be held up and yes, I fear to be pointed at by a gun, knife, or whatever that may instantly take away dear life. Also, as a precaution, I always look at the face of people at night so as to have a reference if ever there comes a need to remember them; that is in case of a robbery, attempted homecide, other crime kind of stuff, or combination of them. Anyway, we were about to cross paths at the pedestrian lane; that ugly alien coming from Physci, and me coming from Kwek Kwek. I was staring keenly and with brows meeting like angry at him. He was with his dog, which last Thursday, became my hint that it was the same person. Yes, the "angry look" is also another precaution to scare off anyone who tries to do anything bad to me (telling them instantly that I am ready to fight back). Then 5 meters apart. he blurted off "ang gwapo naman"... Shivers to my spine, I scoffed the message off. This ugly dog (referring to the two-legged one) thought I was hitting on him. I continued walking and some 10 meters after we have crossed, I looked back, and the hell, he was still looking at me with lust. Yes, I continued to my destination, and tried to forget this thing off. I told Ton about the incident, and never again did I try to recall this particular scene. Then came last Thurday.
At the start of the entry, I described my sighting of him near Baker Hall from afar (again with his mongrel dog). I continued running, DMST, VetMed, Carillion, CEC, then by YMCA, we were about to cross paths again. Yes I braced myself for the worst. Five meters, four, I was jogging and approaching was faster than the first encounter. Two meters, alas, he said "ang ganda naman ng pawis mo"... This time around, I was kind of prepared, so the shock effect was not as strong. But that don't change the fact that I wanted to punch him in the face. No I didn't punch him, I had second thoughts. First, I don't want to create a scene. Second, I don't want my skin to come in contact with such an ugly creature. But I think, I won't have any second thoughts if a third time comes around. And if such a time comes, I don't mind creating a scene, even if the UPF questions me and charges me with assault.
Just a disclaimer, I don't have anything against gay guys. But yes, I hate gay people who shout out their lust towards one person in public. I think, that applies to non-gay people who display their lust on public as well. Erg. And just to inform everyone who cares enough for me, I'm still taking this fair enough. I know psychologically, this has some effect on me, but I'm still fine. And no one is gonna stop me from running.

Successes and Blunders
Success#1 We got new chairs
Carla and I have new computer chairs in the office. It actually came in early as we just ordered them at the start of the previous semester. Yeah, I think it came early, since I expected them to come at the start of the next semester. Don't have photos of them yet. I assure you that they're better than the old ones. At least my back isn't going to suffer anymore from the diagonal recline angle of my old chair.
Success#2 I made some great Puttanesca
The name originated in Naples, Italy after the local prostitutes, Pasta alla Puttanesca meaning "Pasta in the way a whore would make it". The reason why the dish gained such a name is debated. One possibility is that the name is a reference to the sauce's hot, spicy flavour and pungent smell. Another is that the dish was offered to prospective customers at a low price to entice them into a brothel. -Wikipedia
Anyway, I think this new version is better than what I cooked on Alan's birthday. I still used white spaghetti (any white pasta will do for red sauce based dishes), garlic, onions, and sliced tomatoes. I just made the flavor more Italian by using Italian flavored sauce and another kilo of tomato sauce. Also, I made it hotter by making all the tunas used "hot and spicy", plus I added chili powder. Instead of using the cheaper black olives that needed to be sliced, I used the sliced canned ones. The ten pesos difference gave me a three hour headstart. I am now more confident in my cooking, because my estimates both in ingredients and in time are now becoming more accurate.
Success#3 I'm feeling better
Yep, I'm losing weight (again), and it does feel better. I'm currently running 4 laps of figure-eight tracks around the lower and upper grounds of the Freedom park. That's 6.4 kilometers a day. I am also more aware of running do's and don't's now. Last week, I focused my diet on buildng up my resistance. This week, I focused on fiber and digestion. This week hasn't been that much of a success as I instantly felt the decrease in my resistance given the lower calorie intake (1200-1400 a day). But still the same. I'm feeling better (compared to when I was in my physical slump).
Blunder#1 I've got no control at home
Yes, a contradiction to my last enumerated success. Well, there are many factors. There's a lot more food here in our house (compared to the apartment where I had to do groceries for the week); home spells out rest and recreation plus eating, eating, eating; I didn't bring my running shoes; more pollution, though our village is somewhat less polluted than the whole metro. But yeah, I am still putting some control. A while ago I ate two donuts instead of the usual three. I try to stay away from rice as much as possible. And I still have my usual dose of calcium.
Blunder#2 I've got boils
Boil or furuncle is a skin disease caused by the inflammation of hair follicles, thus resulting in the localized accumulation of pus and dead tissue.Boils are generally caused by an infection of the hair follicles by Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus epidermidis, a strain of bacterium that normally lives on the skin surface. It is thought that a tiny cut of the skin allows this bacterium to enter the follicles and cause an infection. This can happen during bathing or while using a razor. People with immune system disorders, diabetes, poor hygiene or malnutrition (Vitamin A or E deficiency) are particularly susceptible to getting boils; however, they also occur in healthy, hygienic individuals, due to over scratching a particular area of the skin. -Wikipedia
My first reaction was, "Oh my, I have a biblical disease". Yeah, I sounded like a Sweet Valley High villain. But what really pissed me of is its location. It's located in my head. As if boils weren't pissing enough. This particular boil is a result of the hot weather, my increased activity due to my frequent running resulting to more perspiration, and me always scratching my head. Voila, a boil, made specially for Mykmyk. Mom had to cut some hair, "Pag si Dr Sha yan, mas marami pa tatanggalin nun" (my mom's a nurse), and sleeping had never been more painful.
Blunder#3 Bad bad dreams
I've got bad dreams lately. The last was me performing a Katon Goukakyuu No Jutsu (Grand Fireball technique) that failed no matter how many times I tried. Anyway, so much of reading Sasuke and Itachi's grand battle (Sasuke "won"!!! <-- haha, spoiler!). Now that I've mentioned it, I really can't remember who I was using the jutsu against. And my dream continued on with me looking for a new house. But the setting is here in Marikina. I'm supposed to be looking for a better house in LB. I hope it's not a premonition that I will no longer work in LB. No!!! Bad dream! Bad dream!
Blunder#4 My eyeglasses got chipped
Alas, my ultra light, "frameless", mid-rib glasses had one of its lenses chipped. This happened just before we went to the airport for my mom's departure to Saudi. Erg, this is the best glasses that I had (all because of the description I mentioned earlier). Now I have to buy a new pair. Not that I can't afford one, but it came with bad timing as I face more financial obligations this summer with the moving thingy. Anyway, just to update you guys, we may not be moving at all. Long story. I'll just update you more in another post.
I guess that's it. Three successes to four blunders. Blunders win. Erg!
